Which Reserves branch of the military is most gay-friendly?

Question by EndymionSpilos: Which Reserves branch of the military is most gay-friendly?
I am considering joining the Reserves part of one of the military in order to help me pay for some of my 120K student loan debt. The problem is I am a gay male. Which part of the military reserves is most gay friendly? I am currently in southern california, and would like to stay here.

Don’t ask, Don’t tell policy. Gay people are NOT allowed in the military for safety of that person. You can join, you don’t have to tell them that you are gay, but if you do some type of “homosexual act” while in the service that they can get you on that and kick you out and you will not get money to pay off that loan.

    None. Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

Nothing in the reserves, but otherwise, the Navy’s been pretty low-key. Just don’t do it. Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

Sounds like you want to join for the wrong reason.

Unless your primary goal is to serve your nation – you will hate your time in the military.

If you get sent to Iraq – what will you do? Complain? Try to get out of it? Or decide that you are going to do the job you promised you would do?

No branch of military allows gays. That said, are all those men in service not gays?. No.

From that, the inference is all branches of the reserves are gay friendly.

    You have the answer.

Now, you choose the one you like to serve our nation.
    Power to you.

Take a cue: History has it that many presidents in the office were cheating on their wives. Except one, who got caught for fooling with an intern at the white house. Moral?do it but don’t get caught.

Gays in the military? Do it, but don’t get caught.

The best soloution for your problem is to try to get into a support unit. Perferable the ones that do not get to close to the grunts. The support units are the ones that have the best track record. However as others have stated it is not a good idea if you intend to be to overt. It is very difficult to be in the closet and BDU’d. As a suggestion of a friend of mine in the service… She hooked up with a dude (with full discolsure) so that she would not be found out. Just a idea, and it is illegal so take it for what its worth. Good luck and if you decide to join, Godspeed.

No such thing as a gay friendly military. Also, it is doubtful you will be stationed in SoCal. Military branches will send you where they need you, you may get lucky depending on what you enlist for. Still, you will see the world.
If they find out you are gay after you get in you will get a dishonorable discharge and no benefits, ie: money for college.
